I'll be honest, I was nervous about the clinical review process. We've worked with agencies before who've produced things that looked great but had to be pulled apart by our clinical team before they could go anywhere near a patient. That didn't happen here. The script Beluga wrote was careful and accurate from the first draft, which meant our clinical sign-off was straightforward rather than the usual back-and-forth. The film now plays in our waiting rooms and we send it to patients before their appointments.
Our research is genuinely complex and we've been let down before by agencies who nodded along in the briefing and then produced something that bore very little resemblance to what we actually do. That didn't happen here. Beluga read the papers, came back with intelligent questions, and produced a script that our PI signed off with almost no changes. That almost never happens. We used the finished film in our REF impact submission.
Before the animation, I couldn't get investors to understand what StarLiX does no matter how I explained it. After it, everyone got it straight away. I was genuinely blown away.

Every project follows the same structure, not because we're rigid, but because we've learned what works. You review and approve at every stage. Nothing expensive gets built on an unapproved foundation.
Script
We distil your information into a clear & concise script. This is where the story is built, everything else follows from it.
Storyboard
We turn the approved script into a visual narrative, a sequence of sketches showing how the story will look and move.
Style & voice
We create the visual style and help you choose a voiceover artist. We can match your brand, reference a style, or create something new.
Animation
The finished film, with music, sound design, and subtitles. Delivered in every format you need, for every channel.

Beluga was built on a belief that most organisations communicate worse than they should, not because they lack important things to say, but because translation from expert to audience is genuinely hard. We've spent ten years getting better at it.
We are a small studio by design. Every project is worked on by Jonathan and Max, not delegated to a junior team. That's the deal.
Background in the psychology of motivation and communication. Jonathan designs the narrative architecture of every project, how information is sequenced, what gets said and what doesn't, and how a story builds understanding rather than just conveying facts. He's the reason the script comes before everything else.
Artist and animator specialising in using visuals as a tool for understanding. Max translates Jonathan's scripts into films that hold attention, where every visual choice exists to clarify the idea, not to decorate it. Ten years of making difficult subjects look as clear as they sound.

We follow WCAG 2.2 guidelines on every project. Subtitles as standard. Accessible colour contrast and British or American Sign Language available on request. Animation that can't be accessed by everyone isn't doing its job.
